There are a number of reasons to use the tui mode, but for the new user, the most common reason is to get yourself out of a jam.  Whether you are upgrading your graphics card, or repairing your Lilo boot loader.  You are going to need to know how to get yourself into the text user interface.

How to repair Lilo via the command line or install cd.

The Vectorlinux install cd has a few more tricks it can accomplish other than just installing Vector.  You can also repair or configure Lilo directly from the cd.  This is especially valuable when Lilo is down and you can not boot into a text user interface (tui) mode on your machine. Also featured on this tutorial is how to run the same utility ‘vliloconf’ from the command line.
