Vectorlinux uses gslapt for software installation (and yes it does dependency checking ), but Vectorlinux does not use the package manager for handling kernel upgrades.
Kernel upgrades are made available on a regular basis in the form of txz packages that are manually installed.
What the video to get a clear idea of the steps involved and maybe come away with an understanding that this is not as difficult as you may assume.
